Man Meat Mondays: November 14th, 2011

It’s Monday, November 14th, and that makes it World Diabetes Day! To celebrate this most excellent day and help raise awareness, today’s sporty man meat selection comes straight from the sexual chocolate aisle of your local grocery store.

Not the fancy store carrying the primo high end stuff that costs a fortune. More like your friendly neighborhood grocer where regular peeps do their shopping.

It’s all good.

Today’s Financial Factoids

The ups and downs of the New York Stock Market have been in the news a lot this year. These surges and drops have overshadowed the fact that in the long run, the market has made remarkable advances.

It was on this day 39 years ago that the Dow Jones Index first topped the 1,000 mark. Developed by Charles Henry Dow, the industrial average was first published in 1896.

For decades, the index was made up largely of stocks in the manufacturing sector. Today, its components mirror the change to a more diverse economy. As more Americans entered the stock market, it became more active. In 1990, 157 million shares were traded on an average day. Now, that figure is 2.4 billion shares.
