Know what else is hot and floats across the great pond?

Today’s Flighty Factoids

The obligatory daily factoids, also known as a cover story you can tell the wife if she catches this page open. Honest, sweety! I’m learning things, like …

The sounds of some of the most powerful engines on earth are echoing around Reno, Nevada through Sunday — at the National Championship Air Races. People who love those sounds — and the airplanes that make them — will come from all around the country to see competition among six classes of aircraft — including unlimited sport, formula one, jet, and biplane.

The Reno air races recall the huge events held in Cleveland in the 1930s that acted as a development laboratory as aviation moved into the modern era.

The sleek air racers circling the pylons at the Reno course are among the nation’s more than 23,000 aircraft classified as experimental.
